Ross Barton is left absolutely gutted when he braves a visit to the pub for the first time since his acid attack.
His decision to go out in public ends horribly – and leaves him with little or no hope for the future.
In heartbreaking scenes that air tonight (Thursday 28 March), a nervous Ross (Mike Parr) visits The Woolpack, mentally preparing himself for a few people to stare at his scars.

But he doesn’t expect a cruel trick to be played on him… Leaving him humiliated and scarred internally, too.
The sad scenes follow Ross as he sets out feeling more positive about things. Despite the bad news he’s received over acid attacker Simon McManus planning to plead not guilty, Ross decides that it’s time to stop hiding himself away.
And his confidence is given a HUGE boost when an attractive woman starts chatting him up.
However, it turns out that she’s made a childish bet with her friends – and it’s all a horrible joke.

When the truth is revealed and Ross overhears the group laughing at him, he feels bitterly humiliated and at his lowest point yet.
This new blow will have catastrophic consequences for Emmerdale favourite Ross, as he disappears in this highly volatile state.
The next morning, his worried brother Pete discovers Ross’ abandoned car with an empty bottle of alcohol and some pills…
