Gino’s Italian Family Adventure on ITV1 – what’s it about?
As the title suggests, the show features Gino D’Acampo, his family and the beautiful landscape of Italy – what’s not to love?
For this series, Gino takes his wife Jessica and three “British-born bambinos” – Luciano, Rocco and Mia – around some of the hidden gems of his native homeland.
The This Morning chef investigates the roots of his passion for food.
He rediscovers the places and the flavours that shaped him and inspired him to become a chef.
Gino’s kids visit Sardinia every summer on holiday, but the family rarely ventures further and he’s determined to plunge them into the real Italy and embrace their heritage.
Episode one
In episode one, Gino takes his wife, Jess, and their three children, Luciano, Rocco and Mia, for an “untypical” D’Acampo day out.
The aim? To help them get in touch with their Italian roots!
They start their journey by discovering the lesser-known Eastern Sardinia.
The family heads out on a kayak adventure to experience the coasts beautiful limestone caves.
Later, they enjoy lunch on a secluded beach – a D’Acampo family favourite of “salsiccia e fagioli”, or sausage and beans.
Afterwards they head inland, to the mountainous area of Lodè, stopping off en route at an ancient nuraghe, a mysterious 3000-year-old stone structure that is Sardinia’s equivalent of Stonehenge.
In the mountains, they meet local shepherd, Gianni, whose family have been rearing sheep on the land for 200 years.
Gianni enlists the D’Acampos to help round up his flock of sheep, before teaching them how to milk them and make the famous local delicacy, pecorino cheese, according to an age-old family method.
Where does Gino visit in Gino’s Italian Family Adventure?
Episode one sees Gino and his family explore eastern Sardinia.
Gino lunches on a secluded beach before heading into the mountains to experience the life of a shepherd.
Subsequent episodes see him visit Naples, Calabria and Puglia.
In episode two, Gino and son Rocco head to his hometown of Naples, to discover the food that shaped his childhood.
After sampling the delights of Pizza fritta, Gino cooks up some of his mama’s classic recipes.
Episode three sees Gino take his eldest son, Luciano, to Calabria in Italy’s toe, one of the country’s most unspoilt regions, to discover the meaning of a hard day’s work.
There, they take a trip out on a unique sword-fishing boat in the Strait of Messina.

In episode four, Gino takes daughter, Mia, to the Gallura region of Northern Sardinia to learn how local culture and recipes are traditionally handed down through Italian families.
Episode five sees Gino left unsupervised with his in-laws, Elizabeth and Malcom, as they head to the stunning Cilento coast to unlock the locals’ secret to long life – the Mediterranean diet.
In episode six, Gino takes wife Jess for a romantic getaway to Puglia to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.
After a stroll round the picturesque Vico del Gargano, known as the village of love, they head south to experience the stunning Masseria Coast.
How many episodes is Gino’s Italian Family Adventure?
Gino’s Italian Family Adventure is seven episodes.
Each episode is an hour long, including ad breaks.
The series begins on Monday November 8 2021 at 8pm on ITV1 and continues thereafter on Mondays.
What has Gino said about the new series?
Gino, 45, says the series has been on his radar for a couple of years – but it all depended on his family.
He says: “I’d done some [camera] work with my daughter Mia and she was very good.
“I done something before with Luciano, too, so I knew he’d be alright. Rocco I was sure about it.
“The one I wasn’t sure about was Jessica, my wife, because she doesn’t really like to get involved in it.
“But the lockdown sort of helped, because we were all very eager to do something different.
“So that was the right timing.
“I said, ‘Let’s go to Italy, I’ll take each of you around Italy!”
Gino’s Italian Family Adventure starts on Monday November 8 at 8pm on ITV1.
