Girl-band star ‘all signed up’ for new series of Strictly

Dancing just got sexier...

With only days to go until this year’s Strictly Come Dancing line-up is made official (or so we’re told), it’s fair to say that our hearts aren’t so much racing with excitement as pulling cartwheels across the dancefloor.

If the rumours are anything to go by, we could be in for a real treat when the hit BBC show returns to our screens in September.

The names that have been bandied about include X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, Olympic athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill, actress Martine McCutcheon and even astronaut Tim Peake – now, that would really be out of this world!

And now The Sun has raised anticipation levels to fever pitch by claiming that Saturdays singer Mollie King has signed up for the new series.

The newspaper quotes a source as saying: “Mollie is all signed up and will be this year’s Strictly babe.

“She’s a talented performer because of all her experience with The Saturdays and her solo career — so she’s someone who’s very likely to make it to the final rounds.”

Well, the jury’s out on that one – while Mollie’s bandmate Frankie Bridge did brilliantly in the 2014 series, finishing runner-up to the eventual winner Caroline Flack, Rochelle Humes came up short when she appeared on the 2013 Strictly Christmas Special, finishing bottom. Ouch.

There’ll be extra pressure on Londoner Mollie, 30, if she does sign up, as the show has a new head coach with a fearsome pedigree.

Shirley Ballas – who’s replacing outgoing viewers’ favourite Len Goodman – is a ten-times US Latin American champion, as well as holding multiple titles in her native Britain.

No pressure then, Mollie.

While The Saturdays celebrate their tenth anniversary this year, the band is currently inactive as the five girls explore individual ventures.

Mollie is signed to Island Records as a solo artist, and released her first single – Back To You – last year.

Even if she does make her rumoured appearance on Strictly, it’s unlikely to kickstart a career away from singing.

A source told The Sun: “Her solo career is still very much a priority.”
