Spencer said: “I’m so excited to join the GMB team this Monday and bring all the latest entertainment gossip although not talking about myself might feel odd!

“I’m an avid viewer of the programme as I am up early with my newborn and nothing prepares you for the day quite like watching Piers’ brilliant rants – of which both my son Theodore and I are fans. See you on Monday!”

Richard Madeley will also return for three days alongside GMB stalwart Kate Garraway, on Monday 18 – Wednesday 20 February.

He said: “It’s huge fun sitting in for Piers. Good Morning Britain has been on a real roll since its launch – great viewing figures, great guests, loads of exclusives and a good dollop of daftness mixed in.

“Unlike some live programmes, their highly experienced producers trust their presenters to go with the natural flow of the show, if necessary to come right off script, so literally anything could happen.

“And it’s such a treat working with Kate, Charlotte, Ranvir, Sean and Susanna. I’m hugely looking forward to next week and I hope you can join us.”

Piers and his co-star Susanna Reid are currently enjoying a three-week break away from their gruelling early morning schedule.

Last week, Susanna revealed she and Piers would be taking a break from the show.

She said: “Sadly, our last morning together for three weeks…”

Piers is currently sunning himself in California and, at the weekend, he teased that he’s “almost” missing his co-workers.

He said: “A rare photo of the entire @GMB presenting team, & our esteemed editor. I almost miss some of them.”

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Piers revealed he’s now in Texas but admitted he’s had a “disappointing” start to his Valentine’s Day.

He tweeted: “It’s 7.48am, I’m the only customer in a rural Texas café and the staff are exuding an air of cold, grim-faced simmering resentment at having to serve me.

“So far as I can deduce, this is not because they know who I am. But it’s a very disappointing start to my Valentine’s Day.”
