Starring Sarah Lancashire, BBC One crime drama Happy Valley was a huge critical and ratings success.
Now writer Sally Wainwright has spoken about the possibility of a third series, and has delighted fans by saying that it is now ‘not on the back burner’.

Sally, the woman behind other hit dramas such as Last Tango In Paris and current ratings success Gentleman Jack, told Digital Spy that a third series was on the table… but we might have to wait further for it.
“It’s not on the back-burner as such,” she said. “It’s just going to take me a long time to get to it because I’ve got to do Gentleman Jack 2 now, and I’ve just finished writing series five of Last Tango, which I start filming in September.”
“We’ve got pretty clear ideas of where the story’s going to go.”

Happy Valley, which also stars James Norton and Siobhan Finneran, tells the story of Yorkshire policewoman Catherine Cawood (Lancashire).
In series one, she got involved in a kidnap plot and a terrifying battle with psychopath Tommy Lee Royce (Norton).
Sarah, 54, won a BAFTA for her performance in 2017.

Sally is currently enthralling viewers with raunchy drama Gentleman Jack on BBC One.
Starring Suranne Jones as 18th-century landowner Anne Lister, who is regarded as the “first modern lesbian”.
A recent instalment focused on Anne’s budding relationship with Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle).
As Anne told Ann about her time in France, viewers saw her romping in bed with a naked woman.
The racy scene prompted plenty of response on social media.
“Bloody hell that was a flashback and a half,” one viewer said on Twitter.
