Tensions were running high on Thursday’s episode of This Morning, as Holly Willoughby and Phil Schofield “struck a nerve” in an awkward interview, admitting afterwards that their guests were “touchy”…
OK, so it was with The Muppets, but STILL.
The ITV presenters were speaking to Kermit the Frog and his ex-girlfriend, Miss Piggy, ahead of their new show at the O2.
And the high-stakes interview went seriously downhill when Phil, 55, asked if the pair might reunite one day.
Everyone’s favourite celebrity couple split up in 2015, sending shockwaves around the world. Kermit quickly moved on with a pig called Denise, who worked in marketing.
Speaking in a pre-filmed interview, Phil asked the muppet pair: “I’m sure a lot of people who are watching are wondering whether love would blossom once more for you?”
There is a pause as Miss Piggy shakes her head and then says a firm: “No.”
Holly, 37, adds: “It would be nice! We’re kind of waiting for it”
Kermit replies: “I think we are both happy being together at work but we keep our romantic lives very separate.”
Miss Piggy then gets confrontational, asking the presenting duo: “How about you?”
Dad-of-two Phil explains: “We’re sort-of married to other people…” as Miss Piggy questions: “Sort of?”
Holly clarifies: “Oh no we are”, as Phil laughs and adds: “We are. No no no.”

Kermit then asks: “You’re skirting around us getting back together?” as mum-of-three Holly says: “Yeah, well we’d all like to see that!”
A furious Miss Piggy hits back, saying: “Would you? Well I’d like to see you two get together. You do that and maybe the frog and me will.
“How does that feel, huh? How does that feel when people want you to get together?”
Phil mutters to Holly: “That’s clearly a touchy subject”, as Holly adds: “We have struck a nerve. I’m so sorry.”
Dancing On Ice presenter Phil tries to calm troubled waters by flirting with Miss Piggy, saying: “You are looking particularly beautiful Miss Piggy, I have to say.”
And when she later asked if she was his favourite, he added: “I do love you most, I always have.”
But things didn’t get any less awkward and back in the studio, Phil said the interview was, “like getting a paper-cut and getting lemon in it.”
Holly agreed, saying: “They were touchy about that!”
Well wouldn’t you be if everyone kept asking about your ex? Come on, guys.
