Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield suffered an unfortunate blunder during Thursday’s episode of This Morning.

The pair kicked off the show presenting from the deck of HMS Belfast on the River Thames, before jumping into a raiding craft to head towards the show’s studio.

But disaster struck in the middle of the Thames when their boat ran out of fuel!

Holly and Phil, who had a cameraman and two naval reservists with them, revealed there was water coming on board as well!

It all started off well, with Phil saying: “I’m ticking two of my bucket list off today. This is the first time we’ve done this. This has to be the coolest ride on the river!”

But Holly then said: “There’s water coming in over the side! Have we sprung a leak? Changing fuel bags? Have we run out of fuel? We are going to have to row! This is amazing! What happens if we get stuck?”

Back in the studio, showbiz correspondent Alison Hammond had been holding the fort until Holly and Phil returned – but Phil joked she may have to front the whole show!

Alison replied: “I’m going to have to save them. I can’t believe they’ve run out of fuel. Don’t worry I’m here!”

Phil laughed: “At least we’re drifting in the right direction!”

Holly added: “Is there a bar on the boat?”

Thankfully the pair did make it back to the studio eventually, but didn’t have time to get changed, meaning they presented the rest of the show in soaking wet clothes. Yuck!

Phillip said: “I’m absolutely sopping but that was such good fun. Thank you guys. We’ve so often seen you pass our window. To finally have a go was so brilliant.

“I do hope you stalling in the middle of the river doesn’t cost you too many beers, you are never going to live that down!”

In the studio, Phillip revealed he’d got himself a little towel to sit on so he didn’t leave wet marks on any of the This Morning furniture.

Holly found it hilarious, saying: “This is the first time I’ve had to see Phillip sit on a dry towel on the sofa.”

Phillip replied: “We’ve had no time to get changed. I need some dry knickers on!”

Viewers found the whole segment hilarious and took to Twitter to laugh about Holly and Phil’s disastrous morning.

Holly and Phil were on HMS Belfast to celebrate 80 years since the warship’s launch; it’s one of the last-remaining warships from World War Two.

They spoke to one of the ship’s veteran sailors and the most powerful woman in the Navy, Commodore Inga Kennedy.

For Phil, it was a dream come true, as he revealed he’d always wanted to board the HMS Belfast ever since he was a child living in Cornwall.

Before leaving the boat, the duo were given permission to hoist a special This Morning flag on the deck.

These guys have the best fun, don’t they?!
