Hollyoaks has revealed who tried to kill Mac Nightingale

And it's certainly not someone we expected!

So Mac Nightingale’s catalogue of crimes caught up with him this week as he was left for dead in the carpark of The Dog.

Recently Monster Mac started the school explosion, murdered Neeta Kaur and attacked Jack Osborne – leaving the much-loved Hollyoaks veteran for dead.

And – according to Soap Law – his heinous crimes couldn’t go unpunished. But his shock attacker was none other than his own daughter and complete daddy’s girl, Ellie.

Ellie, who is besotted with her old man, even gave Mac an alibi earlier this week when he was arrested at Neeta’s memorial service.

Mac had a long list of enemies who would probably want him dead including Hunter McQueen, who was in love with Neeta, Darren Osborne, who wanted revenge for his dad’s injuries and Sally St. Claire, who had a violent run in with the village villain.

But no one was expecting doting daughter, Ellie, to be the culprit.

When Ellie discovered that her dad’s affair with Lisa Loveday led to the death of her brother Nathan and then walked in on him beating her other brother James up, she snapped and shoved him out of the window – onto the concrete below.

We can’t tell you yet whether or not Mac survives the horror fall – unlike Nathan who died after a similar incident.

But with Ellie and the rest of his family knowing exactly what Mac is really like now, maybe he’s better off dead?

Fans of feisty Ellie don’t need to worry about her becoming the next Gloved-Hand killer though. Actress Sophie Porley said her character wasn’t about to become a villain.

She told Radio Times: “She’s doing it for the right reasons.

“Mac has behaved terribly and Ellie is always the gullible one, she loves her family so much but there have been many times I’ve wanted to shake her and say, ‘Oh just wake up!'”

She added: “It was a moment of madness so the family all rally together around her.

“But the aftermath is not happy. You’ll have to wait and see what unfolds. But something else happens that might help take her mind off things…”

You can watch some of that aftermath on E4 at 7pm tonight.
