Furious Channel 4 viewers hit out at ‘recommendations to skip breakfast’ before fitness training in the most recent episode of How To Get Fit Fast.
Presented by Anna Richardson and motivational speaker Amar Latif, the new series looks at ways of motivating people to exercise and ensure they reach their fitness goals.
But one piece of advice in particular was met with suspicion.
Surely this only encourages people to skip breakfast in the morning which can’t be healthy in the long run! #Howtogetfitfast

Anna noted how ‘low intensity’ training suited her much more than high intensity interval training, meaning walking her rescue dog provided similar rewards to running.
“We showed how walking is as effective as running, in terms of burning calories,” she said.
“And for someone like me, who tends to skip breakfast as well, if you walk or exercise on an empty stomach, you burn twice as much fat.
“That blew my mind.”
It also blew plenty of viewers’ mind, who were not having any of the claims.
#HowToGetFitFast was full of common sense taken way out of proportion if you ask me. But encouraging skipping breakfast is OUTRAGEOUS.

@Channel4 #Howtogetfitfast you should be putting a big warning on exercising with no breakfast, it should be done v carefully and definitely not exercising intensively. Mostly good program but that’s a BIG oversight!

#Howtogetfitfast practically encouraging eating disorders! BREAKFAST FOR DAYSSSSSSS

Channel 4 documentary How to Get Fit Fast recommends exercising after fasting, then fasting for “a few hours” afterwards in order to burn more fat
I can’t imagine how that could be dangerous advice for people vulnerable to eating disorders………..

Clearly, this was a tough audience to convince that breakfast isn’t the most important meal of the day.
@Channel4 #Howtogetfitfast I’m sorry but skipping breakfast just so you burn twice as much calories is ridiculous! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

In fact, many were doubtful about much of what was suggested in the show, with one viewer questioning the science behind the claims.
Where do programmes like ‘how to get fit fast’ find their experts? Carb loading compared to normal diet involved one runner eating mid race whilst the other’s sugar levels were allowed to decline. They were the same until one got a sugar dose. Showing you should carry food.

And, similar to how we all eat toast while we’re watching Masterchef, many other viewers decided to talk it all with a pinch of salt, anyway.
Or should that be ‘a packet of salted crisps’?
Watching how to get fit fast while eating an entire bar of Cadbury’s Oreo to myself. Ironic.
