Huge news for Benidorm fans as the show heads to the stage

The cast are currently filming in Spain for the tenth series

| Updated:

Benidorm fans are in for a huge treat as it has been revealed the hit sitcom will be made into a stage production.

First airing in 2007 the comedy show has entertained viewers with nine successful series and another is on its way.

A spokesperson for the ITV show revealed the show creator Derren Litten is in the “early stages” of writing a script for a theatre version.

A source told The Sun: “It’s going to be more outrageous and funny than the TV show. Casting has already begun and a few of the telly stars have already shown interest.

“With the show’s popularity at a peak, it’s the right time to do it.”

A spokesperson for the show confirmed: “Derren Litten is in the early stages of writing a stage version of his hit ITV series.

“Details will be confirmed at a later date.”

It’s uncertain which cast members will appear in the revamped version.

The show regulars Sherrie Hewson, who plays hotel manager Joyce Temple-Savage, Jake Canuso, who plays barman Mateo Castellanos, and Tim Healey, who plays barman/drag queen Les (or Lesley) Conroy, are currently filming on the Costa Blanca for the tenth series.

According to reports The Dawson family will also be making a return.

It’s believed that the next series, set to air sometime next year, is going to be better than ever with new additions ready to enjoy a stay at the Solana resort.

The show has seen its fair share of big names signing up for brief roles including Sheridan Smith, Shane Richie, Cilla Black and Joan Collins.

Now Yorkshire-born comedian Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown will be joining the show.

A source said: “Roy is really keen to get back into acting, and thinks a role on Benidorm will get him back into mainstream telly.

“He obviously doesn’t take himself very seriously, and neither does the show, so it was thought as a good fit.”

It’s also been revealed that comedian Bobby Ball, 73, will appear in the new series.

It’s been said that his character will be linked to the Dawson family – who made their debut in 2015 after popular family The Garveys left in the seventh series.

And the show bosses are pulling out all the stops to make this series one to remember.

A source has told The Daily Star: “There are more names to come. We’re going all out to make this a series to remember.”

The show has been the source of some real life drama recently as a petition was launched in March by angry fans, to bring back the Garvey family.

The popular clan – dad, Mick, and mum, Janice, with kids Chantelle and Michael, and nan, Madge Harvey – were definitely the heart of the series.
