I’m A Celebrity fans flood Twitter with support for tearful Jennie McAlpine

It was a very moving moment in the jungle

Last night’s episode of I’m A Celebrity had viewers gagging as Toff and Becky forced down disgusting bugs.

It also had them laughing when Toff admitted she was curious to look inside the camp toilet, then accidentally spilled “dunny water” all over herself as she and Dennis cleaned them out.

Lastly, it featured an emotional hit as Coronation Street legend Jennie McAlpine broke down in tears when she spoke about her reasons for being on the show.

The rest of the campmates were all discussing why they were there, with Dennis Wise talking about the support from his family being his main motivation.

And the action then cut to Jennie talking to camera, saying: “My heart was going bang bang bang. I knew I was going to have to tell these people the truth.”

Jennie began speaking to her fellow celebs, but found herself struggling for words. She finally managed to say: “‘Cos I lost my dad earlier this year, so…” before tailing off.

Jamie immediately realised how hard Jennie was finding it, so he sweetly said: “He’d be really proud of you for doing this, darling.”

Jennie went on, and spoke about what her dad had said to her before he passed away. She said: “We were like bestest, bestest friends.

“He would have told me to do it, I said before I came in he told me to do things that I’m not brave enough to do, he would always push me to do things, and my brother.”

The rest of the campmates then piled in for a mass hug for Jennie, as she fought away the tears. Bless!

The moment struck a chord with viewers, who tweeted their support. One said: “He would be proud of you Jennie!”

And another commented: “Poor Jennie. My parents are absolutely everything to me. I’d be a wreck. Good for her for doing it for her Dad.”

Jennie’s dad Tom passed away in March of this year. He had been awarded an OBE, recognising his 40 years of work as a mental health campaigner.

At the time, Jennie shared an emotional post on Twitter that read: “To me and my brother Thomas he was our lovely Dad. We will always love him and be thankful for that.”
