I’m A Celebrity’s Holly and Dec “warned of killer sharks”

Attacks off Australia coast are on the rise

I’m A Celebrity hosts Holly Willoughby and Declan Donnelly are being warned by ITV about killer sharks off the Australian coast, reports say.

Bosses are so concerned by a recent rise in attacks that they are giving the pair urgent advice about the dangers of swimming in the sea around Queensland, where the show is filmed.

One person has died and five people left seriously injured by shark bites in the area since September.

Just this week, 43-year-old surfer Lee Jonsson suffered a 20cm wound on his calf after an attack by a 2.6 metre great white shark.

It happened only 40 miles from where the I’m A Celebrity presenters are staying.

Tourist Daniel Christidis, 33, was killed on Monday while paddle-boarding in the Whitsunday Islands.

Local fishermen say sharks are becoming larger and their numbers are spiralling out of control.

Dec is known to enjoy swimming in the sea outside his penthouse during annual trips to record the series Down Under.

A show insider told the Daily Mirror: “ITV take the health and safety of their cast and crew very seriously so they will pass on the warnings being issued in Australia to everyone, including Dec and Holly.

“Of course it doesn’t mean you have to avoid the beaches completely but you need to be more mindful than normal.”

Holly has already admitted that she fears “everything that moves” in Australia.

She is taking her family with her for the duration of the show and has booked tutors for her children.
