James Martin – who is hosting his Saturday Morning show this weekend (Saturday, August 17) – recently spoke about the music he’d like played at his funeral.
And we have to say, the tune he’d like at his send-off isn’t exactly one many people would choose…
Saturday Morning host James Martin on his funeral plans
During an interview with The Guardian earlier this month, James opened up about his plans for when he dies.
The topic of the interview was music – and James spoke about some of his favourite tunes.
Towards the end of the interview, James was asked about what song he’d like played at his funeral.
“All my mates know that I’m obsessed with tractors. So The Combine Harvester (Brand New Key) by the Wurzels,” he said, revealing his rather eclectic choice. “They’re about £750,000 these days, so I can’t afford one. But I could afford a tractor,” he quipped.
Money was too tight to mention for James
Elsewhere, James revealed the song that changed his life.
“I used to listen to Money’s Too Tight (to Mention) by Simply Red when I was a head chef way back in my twenties, mainly because money was too tight to mention. I was living in a rented flat that cost £60 a week and was only earning about £100,” he said.
How times have changed for the celebrity chef these days!
James’ cancer diagnosis
James’ comments came after he revealed that he’d been diagnosed with facial cancer in 2018.
In a recent interview on Lorraine, James revealed he was recovering well following his latest round of treatment. Although he did rather gruesomely admit his stitches were “falling out of his body” after a recent op!
James told Lorraine Kelly back in the spring: “As you know, last time you were on [James Martin’s Saturday Morning] I was in the middle of operations and bits and pieces.
“But as we speak, the stitches are falling out of my body at the moment. That’s all clear. So onwards and upwards.”
