In October 2024, Jane McDonald gave insight into her daily diet and fitness regime, saying she skips breakfast, enjoys midnight cheesecake, and has a “nervous stomach”.
Fans feared that Jane would retire after the death of her fiancé Eddie Rothe.
However, she put them at ease, saying that, despite having doors “slammed” in her face “every two minutes,” she’s developed a “resilience” that enabled her to carry on regardless.
After he died in 2021, she realised that “tomorrow isn’t promised”. You have to “chase joy”, she adds. So that’s her mission, and she sleeps “very soundly”.
Jane McDonald’s diet and fitness secrets revealed
English singer and TV presenter Jane McDonald will turn 61 this year.
Born and raised in Wakefield, she grew to prominence in the late 1990s following her appearance on the BBC show The Cruise. She now lives with her “best friend” Sue, who is also her PA and stylist.
In a recent interview with The Times, she divulges some key details about her daily nutrition intake. And the exercise routine she sticks to.
“I’m never hungry in the morning,” she says, “so I skip breakfast but I’ll have a cup of tea. That first cup is the best taste in the world. The rest of the morning I spend doing admin because I run my own company. It keeps me busy and I do have a very busy life, but then I like it like that. I’m a bit dangerous when I’ve time on my hands.
“Lunch is more like brunch: avocado or poached egg on toast. I’ve always been very conscious about what I put into my body. In the afternoon I like to get a walk in, get my steps up, and at the same time I learn a new script or a new song.
“Dinner is always five o’clock because I like to watch The Chase. Me and Sue sit down in front of the TV, meat and two veg. Lovely. If we get a couple of questions right, we think we’ve won the whole thing!”
Three pieces of advice from the nation’s favourite cruise ship singer
The best advice Jane has ever received, she says, is never to run after a man or a bus. Why? Because there’s always one behind.
Meanwhile, the key piece of advice she’d give to others is to put their phones down. Look at the beautiful world we live in instead, she says.
Looking at your phone, Jane adds, is “bad for you”.
Finally, something she wishes she’d known younger?
That it’s all going to be OK.
