Jeremy Kyle guest claims she attempted suicide twice after failing lie detector

Chloe was on the show last May

A young woman who once appeared on The Jeremy Kyle Show has revealed she tried to kill herself after failing the programme’s lie detector test.

Chloe Gill, aged 19 when the episode aired in May last year, was on the show to dispute claims she uploaded a photo of someone else’s child to Facebook.

According to a report in LincolnshireLive, the 20-year-old failed a lie detector and was later shunned by “half [her] friends and family”.

Chloe, from Sibsey, said she received abuse in the wake of her Jeremy Kyle episode and attempted suicide twice because of the backlash.

She told the publication: “I went on to get all the stuff over with. I was absolutely gobsmacked when I didn’t.

“Half of my friends and family didn’t want to know me. I fell out with my own mum at some point.”

Asked why she tried to kill herself, Chloe said it was down to a “mixture of the abuse and the show” and said she wasn’t able to walk down the street “without being threatened”.

Speaking further, Chloe explained that she did get help, but not enough.

She said: “[The producers] offered me counselling, two private sessions. They would ring me once in a blue moon to see if I’m alright. This happened twice, three times.”

Chloe, who said she was happy and social before appearing on Jeremy Kyle, believes the show “definitely” could have done more to help her as her mental wellbeing “deteriorated”.

ITV made the decision to axe The Jeremy Kyle Show for good earlier this month in the wake of the suspected suicide of guest Steve Dymond, who was found dead after filming for the show.

Questions have been raised since then over the aftercare given to those who appear on reality shows – with some claiming more can be done.

Earlier this week, it emerged that ITV had asked Ofcom for more time to report back on the death of Mr Dymond.

The media regulator’s CEO, Sharon White, said at a meeting with the digital, culture, media and sport (DCMS) select committee that the body had been “particularly concerned” about what happens to participants after appearing on shows like Jeremy Kyle following the tragic deaths of Love Island stars Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis.
