Friends of Princess Kate have been urged by Linda Nolan to address her cancer diagnosis, warning that she “lost friends” because they “didn’t know what to say” to her after her initial diagnosis.
A video of Kate was shared on Friday (March 22), in which she revealed the news she had been diagnosed with cancer. Since then, there has been an outpouring of support from royal fans.
Speaking on GMB today (March 25), Linda, who has incurable cancer, has urged Kate’s friends to do the same and rally round.
Linda Nolan shares cancer update
Linda was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. Sadly it resurfaced in 2017. The cancer has since spread to her brain, bones and liver and is now incurable.
It was a real shock because two of them were great friends.
However, issuing an update on GMB today, Linda said: “My scan showed that there’s no progression in the disease in my bones and liver, and the tumours in my brain have shrunk a little.
“That was a day before my birthday. We had a party – either way we were going to have a party. But it was good news, so we really had a party,” she then added.
Advice to friends of Kate amid cancer diagnosis
GMB host Susanna Reid then asked Linda what advice she would give to friends of someone who gets diagnosed with cancer. And, if you’re unsure or nervous about what to say, even saying the wrong thing is better than saying nothing at all.
“I found the first time I lost a few friends in the fact they didn’t know what to say and so they didn’t say anything,” she said, explaining that some close pals lost touch with her following her diagnosis.
“It was a real shock because two of them were great friends. We’re alright now. But at the time they said: ‘We didn’t know what to say.’ I said: ‘Say that, I don’t know what to say, but I’m here for you.'”
‘You’ve got to have hope’
On the Princess of Wales saying in her video that people struggling with cancer aren’t alone, Linda said: “I thought it was perfect. I’m suffering myself and I listened and I took everything in.
“She’s so right for someone who has been diagnosed. Hope – you’ve got to have hope and people around you that love you.”
