Kate Garraway left Life Stories viewers emotional last night as she gave an update on her husband Derek Draper.
The Good Morning Britain presenter’s husband has been battling the after-effects of COVID-19 after spending over a year in hospital.
Derek caught Covid last March and after being taken to hospital, he was put into a coma.
Now, although he’s back home, he receives round-the-clock care because the virus has ravaged his body.

Kate admitted to host Piers Morgan that coronavirus has “devastated” her husband Derek.

She continued: “From the top of his head to the tip of his toe.
“His digestive system, his liver, his kidneys, his heart, his nervous system. We’re pretty sure that the inflammation did pass through the brain.”
Kate added: “He still can’t communicate, he still has issues with mobility.
“Fundamentally, he’s in a terrible state. Look, he’s alive.”
Viewers soon took to Twitter to praise Kate with many calling her “brave”, “inspirational” and “amazing”.
One person said: “So much respect and admiration for the wonderful @kategarraway, what a strong and brave lady with a beautiful family. The love her and Derek have for each other is just lovely.”
Another wrote: “How brave is @kategarraway #LifeStories @piersmorgan… and her children too – tearful but so humbled.”
A third added: “Brave, wonderful soul @kategarraway – your humour, resilience, chaos and spirit remains undimmed. An inspiration to us all.”
During her episode – which is the final show Piers will host – Kate insisted she’s “not giving up” on Derek.
She said: “He’s fought so hard to stay in this world and I’m not giving up on him ever.
“He will have moments of clarity and it’s like he disappears again.”

Kate admitted she can feel “lonely” at times because even though Derek is physically there, he still struggles to communicate.
