Hit corruption thriller Line Of Duty “could be back in 2020” according to creator Jed Mercurio.
The BBC One crime drama – starring Adrian Dunbar, Vicki McClure and Martin Compston – traditionally takes a two-year break between series.
But Jed revealed that the highly-anticipated sixth series might be back only a year after series five left everyone on the edge of their seats.

Speaking to the Radio Times, Jed said: “I would hope it’s sometime in 2020, next year. But that’s not something that we’re able to confirm.”
Asked when production might begin, he said: “That’s something that we have at the planning stage, so we are working towards a date. We can’t confirm everything until things are in place.”
Series five, which aired in May this year, attracted a whopping eight million viewers per episode.
It told the continuing story of anti-corruption unit AC-12 and threatened to reveal whether Superintendent Ted Hastings was the mysterious ‘H’ – the top dog behind the ring of bent coppers.
Although the question wasn’t entirely answered, fans were left on tenterhooks when it was revealed that there were FOUR ‘H’s.

It’s also been hailed as one of the top BBC cop shows of all time… But is it all just hype?
One TV fan posting on Digital Spy Forums questioned whether the show is really as good as people say, or if it’s just another hyped cop drama.
He wrote: “Just as we did with Bodyguard, all we seem to hear about these days is Line of Duty this and Line of Duty that. It’s as if there’s nothing else worth watching on the telly at the moment (not true of course).”
He added: “All the hype gives the impression that it’s right up there with the best things that have ever been on TV.
“What made Line of Duty so worthy?”
