Tory MP Liz Truss has been tipped to land £200,000 if she makes an appearance in I’m A Celebrity 2023.
Ms Truss, who some may recall was Prime Minister for a few weeks last autumn, has been rumoured as a contender for the jungle line-up following former Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s ITV showing for the 2022 series.
His participation came around a month after Ms Truss was ousted from office, after she was pilloried for her and her Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng’s disastrous economic policies.
A tabloid stunt at the time saw a lettuce appearing on a livestream to see whether her Premiership would outlast the head of salad leaf. The veg was victorious.
Nonetheless, brand and culture expert Nick Ede reckons Ms Truss could be a ratings winner – and maybe even somehow “redeem” herself.
Liz Truss on I’m A Celebrity 2023?
Nick told ED!: “If Liz Truss does go into the jungle she will following a long line of campmates with links to politics, including Lempit Opik, Matt Hancock, Stanley Johnson, and Edwina Curry.
“She will cause a lot of controversy and headlines. And this is what a show like IAC needs to keep it a constant ratings winner.”
Ms Truss is rated a 50/1 shot to head Down Under with Boyle Sports. But Nick believes she might be up for it.
She has nothing to lose and a lot to gain.
He said: “Yes I think she would do it – she has nothing to lose and a lot to gain. History will be very unkind to her. If she can last longer in the jungle than she did against the lettuce then perhaps she will redeem herself in the public’s eyes. She will be able to talk about her time in office too.”
Worst I’m A Celebrity campmate ever?
Furthermore, thinks Ms Truss would be a “hands on” campmate. “She will want to be loved and understood – both by the voting public, but also her campmates too,” he said. “She’ll be mucking in and I don’t think we will see any diva moments from her.”
Additionally, he continued: “I think she will throw herself in to all the tasks. We may see a record in the amount of tasks the public vote her to do. They will want to see her suffer, for sure.
“The public perception of her will be better than Matt Hancock though, as we really don’t know much about her. Only that she was widely regarded as a failure as Prime Minster, and she ruined our economy!”
Furthermore, Nick added: “Nonetheless, she will be paid some good money. I can see her receiving over £200,000 for an appearance. Securing her will be a coup, and will create headlines.”
