However, during her interview with Lorraine, she denied that she was transphobic.
Even Lorraine knew it was a hot topic that could divide her viewers: “I know by us having this discussion it will actually offend an awful lot of people.”
What did Professor Stock say on Lorraine?
During the interview, Professor Stock spoke about why she lost her job.
“Feeling like a woman doesn’t make you a woman, as far as I’m concerned,” she said.
“There’s a difference between trans women and women that is important when it comes to laws and policies – sport, prisons, changing rooms…
“Obviously it’s controversial and that’s why the students didn’t like it.”
Lorraine then said: “It’s about having the discussion where you can say ‘I don’t think trans women are women and trans men are men’ and I would disagree with that, let’s have a discussion about it.”
How did viewers react to the discussion?
Viewers took to Twitter to voice their opinions.
One said: “Shame on @reallorraine’s show for giving Kathleen Stock a platform. #Lorraine.”
Another asked: “Why is #Lorraine giving a platform to a well-known bigot who has practised hate speech against a minority for years?”
A third also asked the question: “#lorraine why are you even giving air time to this woman?”
However, some were behind having the debate on TV and praised Lorraine.
One wrote: “Thank you @reallorraine for interviewing @Docstockk today.
“Though you made it very clear which side of the debate you’re on, you enabled her to demonstrate that her views are not hateful as they have been portrayed.
“Your viewers were allowed to make up their own minds. #Lorraine.”
Another said: “I think @Docstockk came across wonderfully on #itv #lorraine. Being worried and concerned about women’s safety does not mean you are #transphobic.”
