MasterChef: The Professionals star Cristina Maia was rushed to hospital following an accident that left her needing medical attention.
The Brazilian chef, 51, was covered in boiling soup after her blender exploded on her, which led her to pull out of the signature menu round on Tuesday’s episode of MasterChef: The Professionals (October 24).
MasterChef: The Professionals: Gregg Wallace explained what happened
The accident occurred when Cristina put the hot liquid into a blender and, as she released the lid, cameras picked up an almighty bang as it shot out everywhere, covering her face and neck.
Gregg shouted: “Whoah!” Cristina, meanwhile, could be seen wiping her face in pain and apologising. “Is that red hot? Get it under some cold water please,” Gregg said, as he rushed to help.
After the explosion, the chef was advised by a medical professional to keep a cold press on her chin, while Gregg said she shouldn’t carry on: “I don’t think you should carry on, you’re hurt, so we’re going to stop.”
Co-host Marcus Wareing added: “Cristina has just had a bit of an accident. Unfortunately she’s had to go and get medical help.” She was then seen being escorted to a car by a runner and taken to hospital.
Later, a snap was shared of Cristina at the hospital with a bandage on her chin. The judges also revealed that they decided to let Cristina through to the next round.
