Mr Motivator is making a TV comeback and he has a plan to save breakfast telly

GMTV fitness guru reported to be filming a BBC special

Breakfast TV legend Mr Motivator is eyeing up a return to the box.

The 66-year-old fitness guru reckons the morning telly would benefit from more feel-good programming rather than the rowdy confrontations typical of the likes of The Jeremy Kyle Show.

And ahead of a new BBC fitness special, the 1990s GMTV favourite is hoping inspiring figures can be highlighted on TV instead.

Speaking to The Mirror, the Jamaican-born star highlighted how he feels there is less joy and happiness in current shows that air in similar time slots to when viewers used to watch his ITV workouts for seven years until 2000.

Mr Motivator – real name Derrick Evans – said: “There’s a role for that kind of attitude on TV rather than what we see every single day, which is the shouting and the screaming blatantly pushed in front of your face. A quality needs to return.

“All too often, what we get is all the nasty stuff, all the bad stuff.”

Adding audiences have become used to laughing at other people’s misfortune, he continued: “Feel-good TV needs to come back. We need to highlight people who make us feel good.”

Mr Motivator moved to Jamaica following his stint on GMTV in 2003 but is reported to be back in the UK to be closer to daughter Abigail after she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

According to the newspaper he is now based in Manchester and raffling off his Jamaican mansion.

As well as his TV return, Mr Motivator is also believed to be booked for a series of festival appearances in the summer.

In 2017, his former colleague Lorraine Kelly joked Mr Motivator’s fondness for Lycra left producers with a problem – before he started wearing a bumbag to protect his modesty.

“The thing was with Mr Motivator – I can tell you this – he had to wear that because with tight lycra and a bulge, you need something to distract the eye,” she laughed.
