Mrs Brown’s Boys ‘set to return with first new series in nine years’

The future looks bright for creator Brendan O'Carroll

Mrs Brown’s Boys fans rejoice! A source at the BBC has “confirmed” the return of the hit comedy series.

It will be the first new series for the Irish comedy show in almost a decade.

The last episode of the BBC series based around the family of Brendan O’Carroll’s foul-mouthed Irish “Mammy” Agnes Brown, aired in 2013.

Of course, the show has enjoyed one-off Christmas specials since then.

The new series will be the first in nearly 10 years

It’s been over 10 years since the show first aired in 2011, and it quickly proved a hit with viewers.

Airing on BBC it was a huge hit with millions of fans, who voted it best sitcom of the 21st century.

Additionally, it was named best comedy at the National Television Awards for three consecutive years.

Star and writer Brendan O’Carroll told The Sun in 2020 he had signed a deal securing its place in the BBC’s chirstmas programming until 2026.

The first Christmas special for the comedy show in 2013 pulled in 9.2 million viewers.
