Old Coronation Street set is now unrecognisable after being totally destroyed

It's the end of an era

It has been four years since Coronation Street moved from its Granada Studios in Quay Street to its current home at MediaCityUK in Salford.

But while the ITV soap has gone on to bigger and better things with a brand new set that’s totally HD ready – as well as the recently revealed ‘Wider Weatherfield’ – a new video showing the old set being demolished will still pull at the heartstrings of many long-time Corrie fans.

The video has been shared on Twitter showing diggers and bulldozers on the old cobbles, digging up the historic foundations of what was once Coronation Street.

The old set has been slowly dismantled and destroyed over the years, making way for other buildings in the sought-after part of Manchester city centre.

But while the old set looks virtually unrecognisable, with only a few tint hints of what used to stand on the site, all is not lost for Corrie fans.

Recently the soap revealed a brand new extension to the new MediaCityUK set, called Victoria Street.

The new street features a Pakistani street food restaurant called Speed Daal, a tattoo parlour called Tattoo Will Do Nicely, an urban garden, Weatherfield North tram stop and even a police station.

There is also a specially commissioned memorial bench to celebrate the life of Coronation Street superfan Martin Hett, who sadly died in the Manchester bombings last year.
