Olly Murs addresses rumoured feud with Simon Cowell over his new Voice role

X Factor singer has become a coach on the rival show

| Updated:

His big break was thanks to The X Factor and now Olly Murs has become a coach on rival show The Voice – and he’s not sure how his former boss feels about it.

Speaking on today’s Good Morning Britain, the singer said he hasn’t had any contact with music mogul Simon Cowell since his new role was announced.

He said: “I haven’t heard from Simon.”

With a shrug of his shoulders he added: “If he’s upset then…”

The singer went on to say that he hopes there are no hard feelings.

“I don’t believe in rivalries. The X Factor was an incredible part of my life and now I am taking the next chapter and becoming a coach on The Voice,” he said.

“I am loving it and there’s no hard feelings from me. If he wants to call me, call me Simon!”

The 33-year-old added that one person who is delighted by his new job is his mum, as it meant she got to meet his fellow coach Sir Tom Jones.

Olly will also join Will.i.am and Jennifer Hudson on the new series of the popular singing competition.

He’ll know exactly how the nervous contestants feel as he was once in their shoes auditioning for The X Factor in 2009.

He went on to make the live shows and while he didn’t win, missing out to Joe McElderry, he went on to have the most successful career, topping the charts with his hits including Heart Skips A Beat and Troublemaker.

Olly returned to present The Xtra Factor and then The X Factor with Caroline Flack but viewers weren’t impressed with how the pair handled the live shows and his presenting skills were panned.

The singer later admitted he found the pressure too much and he quit after one series, with Dermot O’Leary then returning to resume the job.

On The Voice, Olly will leave the presenting duties to Emma Willis so he can focus on nurturing new musical talent.

The show will return to our screens early next year.
