Our Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen admits: ‘I feel like a bit of a failure’

A farmer's life isn't for everyone…

Our Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen has opened up about feeling like a “failure”.

Amanda, who recently announced her split from husband Clive, made the comments in a new interview ahead of her appearance at next month’s The Game Fair.

Of course, the star lives on the glorious 2,000-acre Ravenseat Farm.

However, things aren’t always as idyllic as they look, she has admitted.

Amanda admitted that it can be “challenging” working on the farm, revealing that there’s “no such thing as a typical day”.

As part of her working day, Amanda cares for 1,000 Swaledale sheep.

And she shares the ups and downs of farming life on both the Channel 5 show and her social media accounts.

I am utterly pathetic when one of my sheep dies. I feel like a bit of a failure.

Opening up about how she feels when one of her flock dies, Amanda said she feels like a “failure”.

“I am utterly pathetic when one of my sheep dies. I feel like a bit of a failure,” she said.

“The old adage of ‘when you have livestock you have deadstock’ is true. You have to put it behind you. You can’t dwell on it.

“You can’t shepherd or farm without accepting you are going to lose animals. It is part of the job,” she said.

‘Why the hell am I doing this?’

Amanda also admitted she has moments of doubt.

The Our Yorkshire Farm star revealed that farming is “rewarding”.

However, Amanda said: “There are moments when I think why the hell am I doing this but overall, it is a very satisfying role.”

‘Peace and quiet’

Amanda also detailed the hardest and best thing about living in such a remote place.

“You can lose yourself and distance yourself from everyone and everything,” she said.

“Once I go out of that door to work it is back to basics. My home life is busy and chaotic, but my work life is solitary.

“Too much of each one is not good, but living in a remote place gives me peace and quiet.”
