Ricky Gervais revealed he has turned down a huge presenting role replacing Paul O’Grady on For the Love of Dogs.
The actor and comedian, 62, said he was approached by ITV to take over from the late star, who died earlier this year.
While he politely said “no”, Ricky did admit it was “nice to be asked”. His comments come amid claims ITV bosses are looking to find a new face to continue the show following Paul’s death.

In reply to a story that claimed he was in the running for the role, Ricky has broken his silence.
Taking to Twitter, animal lover Ricky shared: “I’ve already politely declined I’m afraid. Nice to be asked though.”
According to The Sun, Amanda Holden and Martin Clunes are also being considered as Paul’s replacements.
A source told the tabloid that ITV wants to continue making the “heartwarming series in Paul’s memory” as it raised the profile of the charity.
Fans react
In response to the comedian’s tweet, fans revealed they are “gutted” Ricky didn’t accept the offer.
One wrote: “Gutted Ricky. Haave to put with Amanda Holden now, cheers pal.” While another added: “Don’t know if it’s true but I’ve just seen your name mentioned as a possible replacement for Paul O’Grady on For The Love of Dogs show? I really hope it’s right – would love to see you on this show with as much love and affection as Paul had.”
A third agreed: “Tbf it would be great to see Ricky and animals in some series. He has a genuine love and it would show in ratings and awareness.”
In his final series of For the Love of Dogs, Paul poignantly told viewers: “Life is full of unknown twists and turns. So it’s always best to expect the unexpected.”
