Following the news the Queen has tested positive for Covid, a discussion was held on The Jeremy Vine Show today.
The show discussed the fact that Her Majesty, 95, is continuing with light duties despite having the virus.
However, guest political commentator Marina Purkiss sparked outrage as she said the Queen is “irrelevant” to some people.

Marina replied: “Of course, and I wish her the best, I just don’t know why we are fascinated by this one person.”
However, fellow guest radio presenter James Max cut in: “She’s the Queen! She’s the most famous person in the world!”
What did Marina say?
Marina then said: “She is so irrelevant to so many people.”
James replied: “That’s very rude.”
And it wasn’t just James who found Marina’s comments rude.
Many viewers watching the debate were in uproar on Twitter and were quick to defend the monarch.
One person said: “How dare she say the Queen is irreleveant!”

Another wrote: “This woman is so patronising and disrespectful of our Queen and dismissive of the hard work she does.
“She’s making my blood boil!”
A third added: “Queen Elizabeth II will work harder in one week than you’ll ever work, and she’s only irrelevant to ill educated people such as you… crack on.”
However, some people agreed with Marina’s comments.
One tweeted: “Agree with everything you’ve said. Great stuff.”
Another added: “Well said Marina! Most of the country are more worried about rising bills, their jobs, potential effects of a war with Russia than whether the Queen is doing light duties or not.”
One said: “The Queen and the royal family are irrelevant to many people today. That is a factual statement.”
It comes after Buckingham Palace issued a statement to confirm the Queen’s Covid diagnosis.
It read: “Her Majesty is experiencing mild cold-like symptoms but expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week.
