Richard Madeley vowed “I’ll be back” as his stint co-hosting Good Morning Britain came to an end today.
The former This Morning presenter has been covering for Piers Morgan for the past fortnight while the journalist has been in the U.S.
Before the show today Richard tweeted to tell viewers: “See y’all later for my last Good Morning Britain for a while… on air in 45 mins with Susanna and Charlotte.”
At the end of the show he then said another goodbye, adding “like The Terminator, I’ll be back.”
Richard’s appearance has divided viewers throughout his time on the show. Piers’ fans have found him a poor replacement for their favourite and can’t wait to have him back.
But others said they thought Richard made a better co-host, giving his colleagues like Susanna Reid the chance to speak and treating guests with more diplomacy than Piers.
However, he has also come under fire for some of his comments and has made a fair few gaffes, such as insulting Hugh Bonneville this morning by saying his show W1A wasn’t his favourite, and quickly changing his mind when he realised the actor had heard him.

He’s also frequently been compared to comedy character Alan Partridge after using phrases such as “back of the net” after a goal was shown in football footage and “are they going to slam in him the slammer?” regarding the Harvey Weinstein scandal.
Viewers have been quick to share their views about Richard on Twitter throughout his time on the show and today was no different as he bid farewell. Some were sad to see him go, while others said they were pleased.
Piers’ fans will have to wait a little longer for his return to their mornings.
Ben Shephard usually co-hosts on a Thursday and Friday so Piers isn’t expected to be back until Monday.

Susanna tweeted to thank Richard for “keeping me company” while Piers has been away, referring to Richard as a “TV legend”.
