Richard Madeley slammed as he calls Good Morning Britain guest an ‘idiot’ during weight loss jab debate: ‘Should be ashamed’

Richard isn't shy when it comes to sharing his opinions on screen!

This morning, Richard Madeley left viewers stunned as he criticised a Good Morning Britain guest.

The 68-year-old presenter discussed the topic of weight loss drugs, alongside his co-star Kate Garraway.

The pair invited journalist Charlotte Griffiths onto the programme to explain her experience with the Wegovy injection, a self-administered weight loss jab – which she used to shed some pounds. Although Charlotte admitted to not being overweight to begin with, she explained that she let a friend administer the jab without doing any prior research.

She stated that she simply got “caught up in the moment”. It was amid this conversation that Richard slammed the guest.

However, whilst listening to her story, Richard couldn’t help but exclaim “you idiot”. In response, an embarrassed Charlotte put her head in her hands.

Accompanied by Dr Hilary Jones, Charlotte explained how she had “hangover” like symptoms and vomited for two days in wake of using the Wegovy ‘pen’.

The journalist herself described her actions as “so stupid” and stated that she “bitterly regretted” taking the drug. Host Kate even dubbed Charlotte a “baffoon” for taking a high dosage of the medication without research or guidance from a health care expert.

Dr Vicky Price from the Society For Acute Medicine also discussed the worrying side effects of the weight loss fad, from dehydration to pancreatitis.

The weight loss injections Wegovy and Ozempic have hit the headlines in recent months – seemingly offering a quick solution to a weight loss battle. They have been made out to be a wonder solution for trimming the waist, whilst allegedly being loved by a string of high-profile names.

Acknowledging just how widespread this epidemic is, Richard apologised to Charlotte for calling her “an idiot”, at the end of their conversation. Dr Hilary also praised Charlotte for coming forward about her story, exclaiming that she has “guts” to do so.

Despite this, GMB viewers didn’t seem impressed as some took to social media to slam Richard’s antics.

One fumed: “Fancy calling your guest an idiot.”

Another stated: “Richard, you can’t call someone an idiot on TV.”

A third wrote: “Richard Madeley calling his guest Charlotte Griffiths ‘an idiot’.”

Meanwhile, someone else added: “I couldn’t believe what I was hearing they were basically making out that poor woman was an idiot. I couldn’t believe the language they used it was ridiculous, they should be ashamed. I hope they apologise to her.”
