Roman Kemp sparks concern on The One Show after revealing health battle that left him feeling like he was dying

'Call the ambulance right now, you're about to die’

Roman Kemp recently opened up about a health scare that left him genuinely fearing for his life. Now, after his latest appearance on The One Show, viewers have shared their concerns.

Last week, the TV presenter spoke out about his health ordeal on his podcast, FFS! My dad is Martin Kemp.

Chatting with dad Martin Kemp, Roman revealed his recovery from an illness led to him suffering panic attacks and thinking he was going to die.

Roman Kemp on having ‘mad panic attacks’

“I’ve had to go to the gym this morning, because I haven’t been for two weeks because I nearly died,” Roman candidly shared on the podcast.

Revealing his body was “on edge” and fearing he was “about to die”, Roman added: “I thought I nearly died last two weeks, it was insane. I had Covid.”

The radio presenter went on to share that he started “having mad panic attacks, like serious panic attacks”.

Roman Kemp ‘thought he was going to die’

He explained: “Anyone who’s had a panic attack knows exactly how it goes. All of a sudden your brain tells you, you’re gonna die, like: ‘Call the ambulance right now, you’re about to die, you’re going to have a heart attack, you’re going to pass out.’

“And then every night for two weeks my heart was going. I was falling asleep with it and waking up with it so my body’s on edge the entire time, I can hear it in my ears.”

‘What’s going on here?’

What’s more due to his dad Martin having a brain tumour at just 34 – the same age as Roman – he feared something similar could happen to him. “So then I’m thinking in my head, what’s going on here?” he mused.

Martin then questioned Roman if he had undergone any medical checks and tests for a brain tumour. Roman replied: “No, they don’t think I need a check on my brain. Like they only say if you got the symptoms, you need to do it.”

‘Hope he’s okay’

Roman returned to host The One Show last night (February 18), and sparked some concern among viewers over his appearance. He appears to have changed his hair, lightening the tips and going shorter on the sides. Roman also sported some stubble – a departure from his usual look.

Roman Kemp is looking gaunt. I was actually unsure if it was him.

One viewer commented: “Roman Kemp is looking gaunt. I was actually unsure if it was him.” Another commented: “Hope Roman is okay.”

“Great show but I hope Roman is okay, he looked very sad behind that smile. Take care,” another urged.

However, others said they were loving his new look, with one commenting that he looked “buff”. “Loving the new look, it really suits you! ” they added.

“Always enjoy The One Show,” said another. “Your hair looks the best it’s been in years.”

Roman was also seen laughing and joking with last night’s guests, Will Mellor and Ralf Little, as the studio descended into chaos thanks to the TV pals.

Martin’s brain tumour ordeal

Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp was diagnosed with two benign brain tumours in the 1990s when he was in his thirties. The diagnosis came after wife Shirlie noticed a mass growing on his head.

Martin opened up about the ordeal in a previous episode of his and Roman‘s podcast, FFS! My Dad’s Martin Kemp.

“I don’t know how long I’ve got left. But I will tell you, since I was the age of 34, when I went through all of that brain tumour scare, I spent two years of my life thinking I was going to die,” he said.

“And I will tell you something. It’s really strange that when I was 34 and stuff and I went through that brain tumour stuff. I was practically resigned to the fact that I was going to die. But I was quite happy with my lot, because I had lived the most incredible experiences,” he later added.

Roman hosts The One Show weeknights at 7pm on BBC One.
