Controversy seems to follow Russell Brand around wherever he goes, and it happened again when he appeared on this morning’s Sunday Brunch.
Brand, 42, was talking to presenters Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer about Strictly Come Dancing, on which Simon is a contestant this year.
Suddenly, he cracked a ‘joke’ which could be described as inappropriate at best.
Referring to Strictly’s London studios, the Essex-born comic started: “You’re around there every week, aren’t you, Lovejoy?
“What’s your motivation on a Saturday at Elstree, lurking round the dancers? ‘I better come, gotta support Simon!’ Stick around, eventually someone will be drunk enough!”
Yes, he really went there, and while there were a few guffaws in the studio, Tim and Simon quickly moved on with the conversation.
As for the viewers at home, they weren’t so hasty to forget the dodgy jibe, and many took to Twitter to give the comedian both barrels.

One said: “‘Eventually someone will be drunk enough’ – great sentiment from Russell Brand on @SundayBrunchC4 given the current conversation #MeToo.”
Another wrote: “Russell Brand makes me ill. Another disgusting male making rape jokes.”
And a third said: “Given the current climate and always, a very poor ‘eventually someone will be drunk enough’ comment from #russellbrand.”
“Russell Brand is so not funny. Vulgar and childlike, I thought better of #SundayBrunch,” added a fourth.
But not everyone slated Brand, and many people tweeted to say how much they enjoyed his appearance on the programme.

One fan commented: “@SundayBrunchC4 Can you ask Russell Brand back every week, please. Hilarious.”
And another gushed: “Russell is just so, so funny! Poor Simon & Tim wondering what he’s gonna say next!”
“Russell Brand was absolutely hilarious on @SundaybrunchC4 this morning. Who knew making apple strudel could be so hilarious! Top guy as well,” said a third.
Earlier this week, Brand – who has a one-year-old daughter with his wife, lifestyle blogger Laura Gallacher – told This Morning how becoming a father had changed him.
He revealed: “Because I was a very severe-type addict character, obsessed with drugs, sex and food, I now have to be very aware about what’s stimulating me.”
