Saturday Kitchen viewers outraged as Greg Davies appears not to wear a poppy

Should he have to?

It’s a subject which has caused controversy for years – should TV personalities be obliged to wear a poppy when making appearances on the telly?

Greg Davies unwittingly walked into the debate on today’s edition of Saturday Kitchen, when it looked like he had come on as a guest – in a very snazzy shirt – without wearing a poppy.

Brummie host Glynn Purnell and chef Theo Randall were both proudly wearing standard paper poppies, as were the other guests on the show.

But viewers were curious and outraged as to why Greg didn’t appear to be, with one tweeting: “Where’s Greg’s poppy?”

Another said: “Why did nobody think to give him one!” and a third suggested he should be fed liver for his lack of poppy.

As Greg happily tucked in to some of Theo’s tagliatelle with artichokes and had the hosts in stitches with his reminisces of teaching, viewers took to Twitter to continue asking for the whereabouts of his poppy.

Someone at Saturday Kitchen must have been monitoring the questions quite closely, though.

As it was only a few minutes before it was revealed that Greg in fact WAS wearing one.

The problem was, it was absolutely tiny and blended in almost completely with his loud red shirt, so nobody could see it.

The cameras zoomed in on Greg’s chest to show that he did in fact have a small ceramic poppy pin in place above his heart.

So all’s well that ends well! Lesson learned for Greg – next time you’re going on TV in November, don’t wear a red shirt!
