An 83-year-old sex blogger gave Phillip Schofield a dressing down on live TV after he made remarks she perceived to be ‘ageist’.
Joyce Williams, a former physiotherapist who writes about “the fun of being ancient in a modern world”, cut off the This Morning host while he was in his flow to object to language he used to describe elderly people.
Phillip was discussing how individuals in a couple may age in different ways before Joyce interrupted him by saying: “Let’s stop you there.”
“Why are you saying I’m ‘young at heart’?” she questioned.

As a seemingly flustered Phillip attempted to explain himself, Joyce insisted: “I am old at heart.”
Echoing Phil’s words as he continued to flounder, she continued: “The point I’m making is to say ‘young at heart’ is an ageist statement.”
“Okay, well I take it back!” he replied, clearly a little put out as Holly and Joyce giggled.
“I’m old and I’m proud to be old!” added Joyce as Phillip made one final push to plough on with his enquiry.

“I want to get over this idea that old age is not all doom and gloom, that’s really what’s important.”
Fans watching at home were wowed by Joyce’s telly showing, urging show bosses to have her on as a regular guest – with one viewer even giving Joyce a personal ovation!
“The lady talking about sex as an older person… I love her!” said one observer on Twitter.
“I honestly didn’t want the interview to stop. She’s so wise and inspiring.”
Another chimed in: “A wonderful octogenarian lady blogging on the delights of sex among the elderly told Phillip off for calling her ‘young at heart’.”
He added: “I applauded – age is a number.”
