Shaun Ryder has shrugged off any fuss to do with the bizarre anti-ageing tactic of swapping face soap for urine because a bandmate is a devotee of drinking his own pee.
Appearing alongside new showbiz pal and Catchphrase host Roy Walker on This Morning, the Happy Mondays star told presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby he preferred washing his face in piddle to receiving a coffee enema.
The pair had to experience odd beauty treatments – including urine scrubs recycling the pee of cows, as well as their own effluence – as part of ITV’s upcoming series 100 Years Younger in 21 Days.

But a little swill with some widdle proved less problem than the enema or a ‘snail facial’ for Shaun, because drummer Gary Whelan has been a dedicated consumer of his own produce for years.
Shaun revealed: “Well, the coffee enema was more enjoyable than the snail stuff… you can call it slime, there’s another name for it.”
He continued: “We washed our faces with cow’s urine and our own.
“That’s no big deal though, my drummer drinks his own urine first thing in the morning.”
Roy also told how he and 55-year-old former hellraiser Shaun bonded over a life and death situation during filming.
Explaining how he was dragged under the waves after his surfboard moved “like a torpedo”, Roy confirmed Shaun had saved his life.
He said: “I’m under the water and I see these two hands to come and save me. He saved me. He said those reassuring words, ‘Stop messing around!'”
Shaun added: “In my imagination, I was all bronzed in my Speedos and I dived into the water and I saved Roy. I just put my hands in. It was summer and it was too cold for me!”
Never in a million years did I ever dream one day I’d be sat with my baby on maternity leave watching Roy Walker recount how Shaun Ryder saved his life at a health farm. Just how strong are my pain meds ffs… 🤤 pic.twitter.com/Nv2VsDcbUK
