Sinitta has hardly been a shrinking violet throughout her career – apart from having a pretty successful pop career back in the Eighties, she regularly set tongues wagging with her outfits on The X Factor.
And yet, incredibly, it seems there are still people out there who’ve never heard of her.
Rather awkwardly, one such person was the man she was matched with on last night’s celebrity edition of Channel 4’s First Dates.
The premise was simple: single celebrity (in this case Sinitta) waits at a restaurant for an unsuspecting non-celebrity blind date to walk in. They spot the celebrity, go crazy and it all makes for great TV. Except in Sinitta’s case, it didn’t work out like that…
The singer’s date was a bearded 44-year-old called Nick, and in his introduction he explained that he was a music-lover.
But his taste in music clearly didn’t stretch to Eighties pop, as it became clear that Sinitta was a total stranger to him.
After an initial exchange that was absent of any “Oh my gosh, I don’t believe it!” moment, the singer decided her date needed prompting.
She teased that she was in the music business and “toured a lot” – but still the penny didn’t drop.

“You’re a performer? A singer? For a particular band or company?” quizzed the Barry Gibb lookalike.
To which a slightly crestfallen-looking Sinitta responded: “Um, in the Eighties I had a big pop career.”
Surely now, Nick would finally make the connection! But, er, he didn’t…
“Excellent,” he said somewhat blankly. “Oh, good for you – that sounds a lot of fun!”
Mind you, Sinitta didn’t exactly get off to the best of starts either. She mistook Nick’s accent for Australian when he was actually from Brighton.

Despite all the hiccups, though, the pair got on swimmingly and revealed that they’d like to go on a second date.
But it wasn’t the (eventual) chemistry between the two that got viewers talking. They were more interested in the age attributed to Sinitta at the start of the programme.
A caption revealed that the So Macho singer is 48… when in actual fact she’s 54!
One eagle-eyed fan tweeted: “Soooooo funny Sinitta lied about her age on First Dates. I’ll just knock off six years #FirstDates #Sinitta.”
And another mocked: “Sinitta is 48? Wise up! #FirstDates.”
The celebrity special – which was made to support the Stand Up To Cancer charity – also featured Roman Kemp, Jan Leeming and Michael Fabricant MP.
