Stand-in host announced GMB as Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid take break

People weren't too keen last time he anchored the programme

Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid are set to take some time off from presenting Good Morning Britain.

Their break, coinciding with the Easter holidays, will allow them to spend some some quality time with their school-age children – Piers with his seven-year-old daughter Elise and Susanna with her three sons Sam, 17, Finn, 15, and Jack, 14.

They will host GMB on Friday, April 5 before leaving our screens for over two weeks , and the first famous face replacing them will be presenter Richard Madeley.

According to The Sun, Richard will stand in for the first three days of Piers and Susanna’s absence, most likely alongside Kate Garraway.

The former GMTV presenter was last on Good Morning Britain in February, when he caused a stir with what some viewers considered an insensitive question to the wife of David Ibbotson, the pilot missing after his plane went down in the English Channel carrying Argentine footballer Emiliano Sala.

Richard also caused a stir on his last day anchoring the show by taking a dig at the producers behind I’m A Celebrity and accusing them of “manipulating” the show’s contestants.

Judging by reactions to Richard’s last GMB stint on Twitter, his appearance this month is unlikely to go down well with fans.

One wrote, using the ‘p’ word that rhymes with ‘brick’: “Richard Madeley is a [bleep] isn’t he?”

Another tweeted: “Richard Madeley is actually making me cringe. Trying to be Piers Morgan but horribly failing. Surely someone else can cover Piers?”

A third wrote: “I can’t stand Richard Madeley. Such a [bleep]. Never lets guests finish their answers and constantly talking over them! No one wants to hear your voice, [bleep].”

In the Express column he shares with wife Judy Finnigan, he taunted Britain’s top political party leaders and suggested his next slot on the programme could be even more controversial.

He wrote recently: “I’ll be back on hosting duties with Good Morning Britain in a couple of weeks.

“The list of questions I’d like to ask Jeremy Corbyn or Theresa May would now fill a fat notebook. But I won’t get the chance. Corbyn and May are frit.”

The other stand-ins are yet to be confirmed, although Eamonn Holmes and Ranvir Singh are likely contenders, as they’ve previously covered.
