Angela Rippon has been issued a warning by ex Strictly pro Brendon Cole after fears her time in the competition is coming to an end.
The 78-year-old star, who is paired up with Kai Widdrington, is through to the sixth week of the competition. She performed an Argentine Tango to Tanguera by Sexteto Mayor, which impressed the judges.
While they awarded the couple 34 points for the dance, one body language expert said he thinks Angela’s time in the competition may nearly be over. And Brendan appears to agree…
Strictly pro issues Angela Rippon warning
Speaking to Sky Bingo, Brendan Cole warned that if Angela doesn’t “exploit” the freedom of the show’s Latin dances then she’ll be out. This is despite Brendan thinking Angela is “really really good”.
He said: “There’s a certain freedom that comes within the Latin numbers that you can really exploit in Strictly and I don’t know that we’ve seen that from her yet.” Furthermore, he warned: “And if it doesn’t come soon, she’s not going to get better.”
However, he did add: “Having said that she’s already really, really good. She’s embracing what Strictly is. I think that’s magnificent.”
When asked whether he thinks she’ll win the competition, the former Strictly pro admitted he does think she’ll last another eight weeks, but noted that only “time will tell”.
“I don’t think we’ve seen many contestants like her. This was the first time since the show started, I thought crikey, give her the glitter ball, she’s really, really good for her age and for her demographic. All credit to her and Kai for being able to create those magical moments.
“Whether they can keep doing it for another seven or eight weeks, time will tell…”
Body language expert Darren Stanton previously said on behalf of Betfair Casino: “I do feel that Angela and Kai are getting to the end of their time in the competition. I don’t see them as semi-finalists.”
Angela Scanlon’s Brendan’s favourite
Moving on, Brendon spoke about how Angela Scanlon was “better than the rest” in the competition so far and is his current favourite.
He said: “She’ll definitely keep up with the rest of the celebs because I think she’s actually better than the rest of them in many respects. I think she’s doing what is being asked of her and she’s really lovely to watch.”
He continued: “I don’t think her number on Saturday was unattractive or bad in any way. Perhaps if one of the lesser-abled contestants did the same number they would have gotten a lot of praise for it. She really didn’t get the praise she deserved. It wasn’t a 10 but it wasn’t a six.”
