Strictly Come Dancing’s Danny John-Jules blames BBC for bullying stories

The BBC says the claim is "categorically untrue"

Danny John-Jules made the headlines during the last season of Strictly Come Dancing on the BBC, but it was for all the wrong reasons.

The former Red Dwarf and Death In Paradise star came under fire when stories were written about him claiming that he was bullying his pro dance partner, Amy Dowden.

Now, these claims were denied by Amy at the time, however, the stories weren’t good for Danny’s public image and he ended up being voted off the show.

The tabloids were reporting that Danny had been warned by the BBC over “bullying” behaviour towards Amy, and Danny has since come out and criticised the BBC for not stepping in to tell the public that the stories were untrue.

“If the BBC heard something that wasn’t true, why didn’t they say, ‘That’s not true’?,” he told Metro.

“If it’s not true, say it’s not true. If you don’t defend me, that’s your business. If you do defend me, that’s your business,” John-Jules added.

“The BBC never said it wasn’t true… They created the stories,” he finished.

Danny then highlighted the week where he ended up with the lowest score from the judges, but didn’t end up in the bottom two.

They created the stories

“Immediately that spells danger for the production because they’re like, ‘My god, we can’t even get him out if he’s at the bottom’,” he said.

“That’s why you started seeing bad stories, darling, because they knew they couldn’t get me out with the audience.”

The BBC has since issued a response to Danny’s claims via Digital Spy.

“This claim is categorically untrue,” a BBC spokesperson told the publication.

Meanwhile, the line-up for 2019’s edition of the show has been revealed and there are some rather interesting names in the mix.

Among the names is former Arsenal and England footballer, Alex Scott, who’s now the odds on favourite at 5/1 on to be crowned the champion of this year’s show.

However, she’ll follow some stiff competition from Corrie’s Catherine Tyldesley, who stands a very strong chance of winning with odds of 6/1.

Catherine and Alex are then followed up by CBBC presenter Karim Zeroual and YouTuber Saffron Barker, both at 8/1 on betting site Coral.

Behind Karim and Saffron are Jamie Laing, at 10/1; Chris Ramsay, with 12/1; Dev Griffin, 12/1; Emma Barton, 12/1; David James, 16/1; Emma Weymouth, 16/1; James Cracknell, 16/1; Michelle Visage, 20/1; Mike Bushell, 25/1; Will Bayley, 25/1; and Anneka Rice, 33/1.

Strictly Come Dancing is expected to start on BBC One next month.
