Saffron Barker topped the leaderboard on Saturday (19.10.19).
The 20-year-old social media star, who was last to dance on the show, couldn’t contain her excitement when her beautiful Foxtrot to Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York with her partner AJ Pritchard scored an impressive 38 out of 40 – the highest in the competition so far.
The blonde YouTuber screamed with delight when Craig Revel Horwood – who is known for being the harsher judge on the panel – gave her a nine, followed by Motsi Mabuse’s 10, head judge Shirley Ballas’ nine and temporary judge Alfonso Ribeiro’s only 10 of the show.
Motsi said: “I think she did really, really well. This is a big iconic song that needs a big personality to fill it in, and I think you lived up to that song. ‘You gave me beautiful technique, you gave me music, you gave me everything I needed to end the show. Congratulations.”
Craig added: “Technically I thought it was absolutely brilliant. You surprised me tonight.”
Saffron said after her score: “I like ballroom, I think ballroom is going to be more my thing.”
Karim Zeroual – who performed a Salsa to Who Let The Dogs Out by Baha Men with his partner Amy Dowden – and Emma Weymouth, who danced a Viennese Waltz to Saving All My Love For You by Whitney Houston with Aljaž Škorjanec, landed in joint second.
Kelvin Fletcher – who has been a fan favourite since the beginning of the competition – scored an impressive 33 points for his Cha Cha to ‘Get Stupid’ by Aston Merrygold with his partner Oti Mabuse, while Alex Scott and Neil Jones matched them with their Charleston.
I like ballroom, I think ballroom is going to be more my thing.
Will Bayley and Janette Manrara had Motsi in tears with their Couples’ Choice Contemporary routine to 7 Years by Lukas Graham which was inspired by his battle with cancer as a child.
In the middle of the leaderboard was Michelle Visage with 29 points, Catherine Tyldesley and Johannes Radebe with 28 points, and Emma Barton and Anton Du Beke with 26 points.
The end of the leaderboard was Chris Ramsey and Karen Hauer with 25 points, Mike Bushell and Katya Jones with 21 points and David James and Nadiya Bychkova with 16 points.
Strictly Come Dancing: The Results Show will return to screens tomorrow (20.10.19) night where one couple will be eliminated from the competition.
