Strictly’s Sam Quek woke up bleeding before BBC Morning Live show in ‘nightmare’ health scare

'I just felt like something was going to go wrong'

Strictly 2024 star Sam Quek previously recalled the terrifying events she faced while going into labour with her second child.

The Olympian is back on screens tonight (October 12), showing off her best moves on the BBC One show. Partnered with Nikita Kuzmin, the pair have gone down a storm with viewers at home.

However, while training for the show is no doubt gruelling, it seems it is nothing like what she went through when giving birth to her second child, Isaac ‘Zac’ Gregory.

Strictly star Sam Quek: ‘I just felt like something was going to go wrong’

In 2022, Sam recalled the scary events that happened while she was giving birth.

Talking to OK!, she revealed how just a week before she was due to give birth, she was due to present on BBC’s Morning Live. However, the TV star woke up in the night due to contractions, and she realised she was bleeding too.

“I woke up and felt a bit of a twinge. Those twinges gradually grew stronger and stronger and turned into contractions. I’d been having recurring nightmares that if this birth went to a C-section, I was going to haemorrhage. I just felt like something was going to go wrong for this one, I don’t know why.”

Later, Strictly star Sam found out that she required an urgent C-section.

Sam said: “The consultant said: ‘Just to be safe, we’re going to whisk you down for an emergency C-section. We don’t want to take the chance that it could be anything sinister, so we would advise getting him out.'”

Zac’s safe arrival

Sam then consented to the surgery to ensure the baby’s safety. However, she was insistent that husband property entrepreneur Tom Mairs was to be by her side.

After Issac was born healthily, Sam was overcome with emotion. She said: “When his little face popped up over the curtain, it was the realisation that he’d finally got here, was safe and was going to join our family of three to make it four.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday (October 12) at 6:20pm on BBC One.
