Strictly star who hoped for career change thanks to show STILL ‘hasn’t had any job offers’

Future remains uncertain

Appearing on Strictly Come Dancing has changed the fortunes of many of its stars in the past.

It helped Alesha Dixon become a Britain’s Got Talent judge, allowed Kara Tointon to shed her EastEnders persona to become a star of the stage and screen, and landed Chris Hollins jobs co-hosting TV shows rather than just being a reporter.

Many including Tom Chambers, Jay McGuiness and Louise Redknapp have gone on to be offered parts in West End shows thanks to impressing on the Strictly dance floor.

It was a career boost Joe McFadden had hoped for when he signed up for the show.

But despite being the most popular contestant and lifting the glitterball trophy, he’s admitted he still hasn’t been snapped up to take on a new role.

“There haven’t been any job offers,” he said in today’s Sun.

“There have been some discussions but there is nothing solid at all so I really don’t know what I’m going to do.

“I know there was a lot of talk about what might happen but because of everyone being off over Christmas and New Year, nothing has come about.”

Such was Joe’s determination to do well on Strictly in the hope it would lead to more theatre work, he quit his job on Holby City at the end of last year.

His character was sensationally killed off to the surprise of viewers.

Joe said at the time that being on Strictly had made him realise he wanted to return to his roots treading the boards.

He told The Sun this remains his dream so he hopes his agent’s phone will soon start ringing.

“I think that now people have seen me dance it would be a shame not to go ahead and do that again,” he said.

“I loved the early things like The Crow Road and the theatre stuff. Having just come off the biggest show on television, I want to make the right decision.

“And having done four years on Holby I don’t necessarily want a long-term thing.

“But as an actor you never know where your next job will come along so I’ll just have to see.”

However, the 42-year-old does have one job lined-up as he’ll be putting his dancing shoes back on to join the Strictly live tour.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing everybody and dancing again. The Glasgow shows are the ones I’m looking forward to most, getting out in front of my hometown crowd.”
