BBC One crime drama Strike made a triumphant return last night, enthralling viewers with the adaptation of the third book in the series, penned by Harry Potter author JK Rowling.
The first episode of two-parter Career of Evil saw Cormoran Strike (Tom Burke) and Robin (Holliday Grainger) rattled when a dismembered leg was delivered to their office.
The private detectives quickly established that said body part had been sawn off and delivered by someone holding a very big grudge against Strike.
Narrowing their search down to three suspects, the crime-busting duo headed off on a hunt cross-country.
The third mini-series also delved a little more into the background of the characters and Robin revealed a devastating incident from her past – she had been raped and left for dead as a student.
Trauma following her attack forced her to quit university and return home to her parents.
In last night’s episode, she discovered that her fiance, Matthew, had cheated on her during this painful time in her life – and viewers’ hearts broke with her as she cried like a wounded animal in her bathroom.
And then they got REALLY vitriolic about him on Twitter.
Always knew I hated Robin’s boyfriend. Now I feel completely justified. Arse. @BBCOne #Strike

Strike fans have never much liked Matthew, finding him arrogant and dismissive of Robin’s passions and ambitions. The question on everyone’s mind now is – aside from the killer plot – whether Robin will take him back and go through with their impending wedding.
