Suranne Jones staying tight-lipped over Doctor Foster’s future

Tell us, Suranne - when WILL Doctor Foster be back? She is returning... isn't she?

Suranne Jones is refusing to confirm when she’ll be back as Doctor Foster – frustrating fans who can’t wait for the third series of the BBC One thriller.

Appearing on Lorraine this morning alongside Jason Watkins, a castmate she is currently treading the boards with in London’s West End, the former Corrie star would not be drawn when the next run of Doctor Foster will begin filming… or even whether she will be back on board as the wronged GP.

But it seems viewers will have to be pretty patient themselves after the star revealed it will be next year at least before she has a gap in her schedule to step in front of cameras.

The 39-year-old explained she’s contracted to play Frozen until May and then will be filming a new TV show with the writer of drama hits Scott & Bailey and Happy Valley until the end of the year.

She told Lorraine Kelly: “There’s seven weeks of this show left then I go on to do a Sally Wainwright drama in Halifax and we’re going to film that until December.”

Suranne, who has won two National Television Awards for the leading role, also insisted she wouldn’t be rushed into committing to another series of Doctor Foster because she has her family to consider, too.

She said: “I’m going to look at next year when next year comes because I have a two-year-old as well which is busy, busy, busy. There’s no time off.”

Doctor Foster writer Mike Bartlett last year revealed BBC bosses had given a third series the green light, but he had yet to discuss it with Suranne.

He said of the second series finale, which pulled in 7.5 million viewers: “That final moment of last night’s episode obviously opens the door for more to follow and I’ve got some ideas, but Suranne and I are yet to discuss it properly. Watch this space.”

Bartlett also said the third series’ main storyline will follow Dr Gemma desperately searching for her son Tom, who ran away from home at the conclusion of the last run.

Lorraine is on ITV, weekdays at 8.30am.
