Tamzin Outhwaite teases viewers about Steve Owen not being dead ahead of Easties comeback

Mel Owen is a changed woman

Nothing could have excited us more about the news of Mel Owen’s comeback to EastEnders – or so we thought, at least.

But now, Tamzin Outhwaite, who is returning as the Walford heroine – has got our heads in a right old spin.

The soap legend has planted an idea about her on-screen husband in our minds that is growing into a soap-plot theory MONSTER.

During a chat with The Sun about Mel’s imminent reappearance, she spoke of how much she’d love to see her other half back.

But of course that’s a futile wish, we all know, as Steve – played by Martin Kemp – died in an inferno following a car explosion.

Well! Here’s what Tamzin had to say…

“I’d love my ex-husband to return but he’s dead.

“I do think he could have got out in that three seconds and rolled underneath the car.”

Okay, have a think about that for a second… and now take a look at his car, before it blew up…

See how it’s parked right in front of the door to the cafe? Our imaginations are running wild that Steve could have run into there and escaped to a new life…

Come on, if we can suck up Kathy and Den, we’ll buy anything to have Martin Kemp back!

Speaking to the Mirror, Tamzin – who left the BBC s0ap in 2002, warned viewers to expect a very different Mel.

“She’s been through an awful lot more. She’s older and wise but more brittle and bitter and damaged,” revealed the 46-year-old.

And her comeback is just another thing we can all thank show boss John Yorke for – he persisted with attempts to persuade her, after she’d said no.

“I wouldn’t be doing it if it wasn’t for him I don’t think,” the mum of two admits.

“It took about three months to say a definite ‘yes’ but during that time I couldn’t get the voice out of my head of ‘oh going back to EastEnders’.”

Literally. Cannot. WAIT!
