ITV’s new six-part crime drama The Bay only started last night (March 20th) but viewers are already having a good moan about the show’s lead character.
Set in the seaside town Morecambe, The Bay sees DS Lisa Armstrong (Morven Christie) investigating the disappearance of two local kids.
Matters are complicated when the man Lisa had sex with on a night out is revealed to be one of the chief suspects in the case.

Morven might have acted the role convincingly, but viewers on Twitter held nothing back as they ripped the show for its “annoying” protagonist.
One wrote, “Well Lisa seems a bit of a cow” and another said: “Well I already don’t like this Lisa in #TheBay! What type of MOTHER goes out and has sex in the street with a complete stranger! Tramp!!”
A third tweeted sarcastically, “Well Lisa is charming isn’t she?” while someone else moaned: “That Lisa loves herself doesn’t she… she’s annoying straight away.”
For another Twitter user, the character was an all-too-familiar face in the workplace. They tweeted: “So Lisa is a total and utter [bleep]. We ALL work with a Lisa or two.”
At the start of the first episode, Lisa got glammed up for a night out with two of her pals.
But after a karaoke session at their local, Lisa caught the eye of a man called Sean (Jonas Armstrong) and the two ended up having sex in a nearby alley.
Turning up to work the next day with a hangover, Lisa was assigned to the case of missing teenagers Dylan and Holly (Noah Valentine and Darci Shaw) in the role of family liaison officer.
When she met the mum of the two missing youngsters, it turned out she was married to the man Lisa met the night before.
During the course of the investigation, Lisa tampers with CCTV evidence to cover up the fact she had sex with Sean.
Later, it’s revealed that he’s not the teenagers’ real dad, and their biological father Lee Ward (Ciaran Griffiths) tells Lisa he thinks Sean is bad news.

In the episode’s closing scenes, Dylan’s body is discovered on a beach and Lisa confronts Sean to ask him where he went after they had sex but before be linked back up with his mates. He refuses to answer and she arrests him for Dylan’s murder and Holly’s disappearance.
