The Chase fans express disbelief as contestant gets answer epically wrong

Oh no... Did she say that out loud?

The Chase fans were left shouting at their TV sets last night, when a contestant seemed to totally misunderstand a potentially life-changing question.

On Thursday’s (Thursday 14 February) edition of the weekday quiz show, another four hopefuls arrived on set hoping to beat the chaser and go home richer.

This time, Yvonne, Alicia, Luke and Peter took on Shaun Wallace – better known as The Dark Destroyer.

While first contestant Yvonne did reasonably well and returned to the team to take on the chaser in the final round, second contestant Alicia wasn’t so lucky.

She found herself in trouble when host Bradley asked her what appeared to be quite a simple question.

He said: “By sixth February, 2018, what defensive fortification had been dismantled for as long as it had stood intact? Hadrian’s Wall, Berlin Wall, or Great Wall of China?”

Perhaps the wording of the question confused her, as she replied: “Hadrian’s Wall. I’m pretty sure the Berlin Wall was taken down before I was born.”

The correct answer was, of course, the Berlin Wall – the only one of the multiple choice answers that has been dismantled, as the Great Wall of China and Hadrian’s Wall are still standing.

Chaser Shaun got the question right, meaning Alicia was chased out of the competition.

Those watching from home, perhaps unsympathetic to the pressures of filming in a studio, were quick to ridicule Alicia for her lack of knowledge.

One said: “She thinks they’ve dismantled Hadrian’s Wall… #thechase.”

Another asked: “Hadrian’s Wall? Are you [bleep] serious? #thechase.”

A third added: “Well I think it’s clear someone didn’t understand that Berlin Wall question at all. #TheChase.”

“Ignorant doofus,” laughed another.

And it wasn’t just the contestants getting stick from the viewers, as Shaun also got a Twitter bashing.

Fans called for the barrister to be axed, accusing him of being the weakest chaser.
