The I’m A Celebrity contestants’ socks are red for a reason – and it’s GRIM!

There's a rather gross reason for the bright jungle attire

There are many things that never change about I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Each year we’re guaranteed to have snakes, spiders, gross trials, dodgy weather and, of course, celebrities swapping their glam wardrobes for a less-than-flattering camp uniform.

But have you really ever sat down and properly analysed their outfits?

No? Us neither.

But it turns out those knee-high red socks aren’t just there for aesthetic reasons – they actually serve a very gross purpose.

An old interview camp medic Dr Bob did with Woman’s Own has been doing the rounds in which he reveals the true reason for the red socks is to hide blood from insect bites.

Er, yuck!

Of course, insect bites aren’t really that much of a surprise when you’re ensconced in the middle of the jungle, right?

The ten celebrities in Australia for this year’s series have no doubt been fully briefed on the conditions they will face in Croc Creek.

As well as insect bites, they have to keep an eye out for lurking snakes and spiders – not to mention the possibility of torrential rain!

Unfortunately for this year’s campers, it’s been reported there may be even MORE snakes and spiders than usual thanks to cold weather conditions on the Gold Coast.

An insider recently told The Mirror: “The unseasonably cold weather has brought the snakes out as they try and find somewhere warm.

“This will be an ongoing problem this year, which is not good news for the celebrities.

“Medic Bob and the team will have to be on the lookout for anything dangerous as a snakebite can easily prove fatal if not treated quickly.”

Meanwhile, Dr Robert Raven told the Daily Star that poisonous spiders were another problem for campers.

“In the past we’ve had early rain and nothing. Just really dry summers. But this summer, the rain is allowing the whole system to  crank up again. People should check everywhere,” he said.

“If you pick up your towel, the next thing you know you could have a huntsman on your face. A lot of spiders are pretty harmless, but redbacks are of particular concern.”

The new line-up includes Coronation Street’s Jennie McAlpine, boxer Amir Khan, The Saturdays singer Vanessa White, ex Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas and former footballer Dennis Wise.
