The Voice coach Danny Jones has enjoyed a huge amount of success in his life – and now he’s helping the next generation as he and McFly bandmate Tom Fletcher become coaches on the new series of the ITV music competition.
From selling more than 10 million albums as one-quarter of the multi-platinum boy band McFly, to even taking glory in ITV’s The Masked Singer dressed as a Piranha, it could be said Danny, 38, has had a pretty good life.
However, all was not bright as behind the scenes his family life was “destroyed”, anxiety attacks plagued him and he had to undertake therapy when he was 18.
He recalled to The Mirror in 2019 the “crushing news” when his dad Alan left 20 years ago.

The 38-year-old singer said: “I was in McFly, doing a movie with Lindsay Lohan in New Orleans, then I had this crushing news that my home life was about to be destroyed. I didn’t know how to cope. My stability had gone. Your first idols are your mum and dad, and when they break up, you realise the magic has gone. I went through a few years of feeling lost.”
Following the heartbreak, Danny turned to his bandmates to let out his thoughts and feelings.
The singer added: “I remember talking to Dougie [Poynter] and saying: ‘I’ve got these weird feelings, hot sweats, my heart rate goes up, I feel unstable. I can’t think straight,’ and he said: ‘Me too, man.’ As soon as he said that, I knew I wasn’t the only person. As a band, we knew we had issues we needed to sort out, but we weren’t overly open.
“Tom [Fletcher] recommended a guy he saw for his bipolar. I went to therapy four times. I saw someone who told me to breathe out a bit. They explained what was actually happening to my body. You don’t understand your own brain. It’s a lonely feeling. It’s like having a massive shopping list of worries. If someone reminded me of my dad, that would trigger it.”
Even though he idolised his dad, Danny no longer has a relationship with him.
His wife and son have helped him get to a much better and happier place
Model Georgia Horsley, 37, and the pop singer got married in North Yorkshire in 2014.
They welcomed their son Cooper Alf Jones, now six, in 2018.
Bolton-born Danny says having his own family has helped move him to get to a better place.
