TOWIE fans tend to watch the programme religiously, which means they know the cast like the back of their hand.
So you can imagine the confusion when one of the Essex show’s characters was introduced with the wrong name in last night’s episode.
It was meant to be an emotional scene, as Georgia Kousoulou opened her heart to her friends Amber Dowding and Ruby Lacey over dinner.
But rather than feel sorry for the worried blonde, viewers were left scratching their head after new girl Ruby became the subject of a blunder.
As her face appeared on screen, the name that flashed up was “Maddie”.
Clearly, the producers got Ruby mixed up with her mate and fellow newbie Maddie Hooper.
And it didn’t escape the attention of fans at home, with the Twitterati on it like a flash.
One fan wrote: “I thought that girl sitting next to Georgia was called Ruby, not Maddie.”

Another was equally confused, adding: “Anyone know who Maddie is?”
And a third joked: “Even #TOWIE don’t know who she is.”
Amusingly, even Ruby herself got involved in the conversation, after a fan drew her attention to the gaffe.
The viewer pointed out: “They put up the wrong name!!! Got you confused with Maddie!”

And Ruby replied to the tweet, saying: “Because @Maddiehooperxx is always there in spirit @OnlyWayIsEssex’. LOL!”
Once the initial shock over the mishap had passed, viewers were able to concentrate on Georgia’s woes.
The 26-year-old was tearful as she spoke of her parents’ divorce and how it had made her doubt whether she wants to tie the knot with her boyfriend of three years, Tommy Mallet.
Last month, it was reported that Tommy had quit the ITVBe show to concentrate on his shoe business.
But he appeared to make a U-turn just a couple of days later, telling The Sun: “I’m not leaving. I’m not going anywhere yet, but sometimes you have heated moments – that’s all it is.
“I’m back filming and I’m having fun at the moment.”
